Canada wins 5th straight Gold Medal at U18
MacKinnon with hat trick, Fucale with shutout

The Mooseheads Nathan MacKinnon, Zach Fucale and Jonathan Drouin have officially arrived on the international stage.


The Mooseheads trio put on a show Saturday leading Canada to a 4-0 win in the Gold Medal final over Finland.  MacKinnon, who was a consistent offensive threat all tournament, led the charge with a hat trick in the final continuing his reputation as a big game player.  Zach Fucale showed the same poise that impressed Mooseheads fans all last season recording a 23-save shutout.  Not to be outdone, Jonathan Drouin chipped in with 2 assists to make sure he was in the mix as well.  The Mooseheads would like to congratulate these three young men and their families for this tremendous accomplishment.  Way to go guys!


In a 4-1 win over Switzerland in the tournament opener, Nathan MacKinnon paced the Canadians with a goal and 2 assists.  Linemate Jonathan Drouin added 2 assists while Zach Fucale made 30 saves for the win.  The Swiss outshot Team Canada 31-25 in the game.



Nathan MacKinnon wasted no time getting on the scoresheet again Tuesday giving Team Canada a 1-0 lead 32 seconds into the game against Team Sweden.  The Canadians would go on to win the game 7-5 in one of the most anticipated games of Pool B action. Zach Fucale made 36 saves picking up his 2nd win in as many days as Canada was outshot 41-28 in the contest. MacKinnon also received a 10 minute game misconduct in the 3rd period in a game filled with penalties.  Jonathan Drouin was held off the scoresheet.



Nathan MacKinnon drew an assist in a 3-2 come from behind win over Slovakia.  The Canadians scored 3 goals in the final period, including the winner with 53 seconds to play, to complete the comeback.



MacKinnon records 3 assists in a 5-2 Canada semi-final win over the Czech Republic.  Jonathan Drouin chipped in with an assist while Zach Fucale got his 3rd win in goal of the tournament. 




MacKinnon leads Canada to a Gold Medal with an epice hat trick in a 4-0 Gold Medal final win.  Zach Fucale recorded a solid 23 save shutout while Jonathan Drouin chipped in with 2 assists.  This marks Canada’s 5th straight Gold medal at the U18.
