Rocket Double-Up on Titan

By Nolan Reid

The P.E.I. Rocket used the second period to their advantage, scoring three times en-route to a 6-3 win over division rival, Acadie Bathurst Titan Friday night at the Civic Centre.

With the win, the Rocket improves to 13-8-1-0 on the season and pick up their third win in as many games against the Titan this season.

Rocket forward Louick Marcotte was named the game's second star with a pair of goals and assists. He said after a strong first period, the team came out slow in the second, but re-grouped.

"We came back hard at the end of the second and we bailed on it and we finished strong in the third period. Good commitment defensively. It was good to see."

Rocket defenceman, Tomas Pavelka, who had two assists on the night said it was good game with dirty goals.

"Not much commission. It was physical hockey."

Marcotte opened the scoring in the first period at 9:10 with his seventh of the season. Erik Robichaud and Ryan Graves drew assists. The lead wouldn't last long as Patrik Zdrahal tied the game for the Titan at 13:52.

Under three minutes into the second period, the Titan scored a goal but it was eventually disallowed by the officials as the puck was kicked into the net.

Marcotte described it as a wake up call for the team.

"I don't think we answered good, but in the end we came back strong."

It was a lucky break, said Pavelka.

"We had to play it simple and put the puck in deep try to score some dirty goals like them."

Ben Duffy scored his 16th of the season at 8:43 to put the Rocket up 2-1. The Titan responded with two back-to-back goals from Zach O'Brien at 11:12 and 14:29 respectively to give the Titan a 3-2 lead.

The third Titan goal chased Rocket starter Maxime Lagace from the crease for Antoine Bibeau.

Alexis Pépin tied the game on the powerplay at 15:59 with his seventh goal of the season. Josh Currie and Ben Duffy drew assists. Currie put the Rocket back in front  at 17:17 with his 21st goal of the season. Marcotte and Jimmy Oligny drew assists.

In the third period, Duffy and Marcotte potted empty net goals in the final two minutes of the game to insure the Rocket win.

Bibeau picked up the win stopping all nine shots on goal he faced after replacing Lagace. Lagace stopped 21 shots.

Mason McDonald took the lose for the Titan making 25 saves.

The Rocket is back in action tomorrow night when they host the Val-d'Or Foreurs. Game time is 7 p.m.
