Potvin and Bussières suspended

Photi Sotiropoulos

The Disciplinary Prefect of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Raymond Bolduc, suspended today left-wingers Dany Potvin of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles for 4 games and Raphaël Bussières of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for 5 games. The suspensions were handed out for incidents that occurred during two different games on February 15.

Here is the rationale which led to the decision for the Cape Breton player:

The opponent:

  • Was no longer in possession of the puck.
  • Didn’t see the player at fault coming.
  • Was injured.

The player at fault:

  • Propelled himself upward.
  • Hit his opponent’s head and body simultaneously.
  • Was at his first offense.
  • Didn’t have excessive speed.

Here is the rationale which led to the suspension of the Baie-Comeau player:

The player at fault:

  • Accelerated from the centre of the rink.
  • Slid from the face-off circle of the opposing zone.
  • Pursued his opponent.
  • Was behind him throughout the race.
  • Hit him behind his left shoulder.
  • Did not try to partially or totally avoid contact.
  • Was at his first offence.

The opponent:

  • Was in a vulnerable position.
  • Was injured.

The decisions were rendered after reviewing the videos of the incident, gathering the testimonies from the players and the organizations involved, reading the officials’ reports and consulting the independent committee in the matter of disciplinary sanctions.

The videos of the events will be available soon
