Nico Hischier returns Friday

Halifax, Mooseheads

Fresh off an extraordinary showing at the 2017 World Junior Hockey Championship with Switzerland, Nico Hischier is set to return to the Halifax Mooseheads lineup on Friday night at Scotiabank Centre.

Hischier cemented his spot as a likely top 5 NHL pick in next June’s draft and became a household name as he scored four goals and added three assists to lead the Swiss to the quarter-finals only to come up just short in an exciting 3-2 loss to the United States. Hischier scored both of his country’s goals in the game and came within a hair of a hat trick if not for a big glove save by the American goalie, Tyler Parsons.

Fans in Moose Country were already more than familiar with the talents of the 17-year-old rookie forward who has excelled in his first 31 games with the Mooseheads by collecting 48 points on 23 goals and 25 assists. He sits eighth in QMJHL scoring and has played at least three fewer games than anyone else in the top 10. He also leads all QMJHL rookies in scoring by nine points.

The player simply known as “Nico” around Halifax will slot back into his usual spot as center on the top line on Friday when the Mooseheads hosts the Moncton Wildcats in the annual teddy bear toss at 7pm. The game will be broadcast on News 95.7 radio and will also be shown on Eastlink Television.

The Mooseheads will also play host to the high powered Saint John Sea Dogs on Saturday afternoon at 4pm which will be broadcast live across Canada on Sportsnet.

Tickets for both games are on sale now at the Ticket Atlantic Box Office at Scotiabank Centre, select Superstore Outlets, or by phone at 902-451-1221.
