Mooseheads’ Jonathan Drouin Named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that 2013 NHL Entry Draft prospect Jonathan Drouin of the Halifax Mooseheads is the first CHL Player of the Week for the 2012-13 season after scoring two goals and five assists for seven points in two games with a plus-minus rating of plus-6 for the week ending September 23.

Drouin helped the Mooseheads open the new campaign with two road wins including a 4-3 overtime victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Friday night where he recorded a goal and an assist as second star of the contest.  Drouin claimed second star honours again on Sunday with a five-point game scoring once and adding four assists as part of an 8-1 win over the P.E.I Rocket.

Drouin, a 17-year-old from Ste-Agathe, QC, is playing in his second QMJHL season with the Mooseheads after scoring seven goals and 22 assists for 29 points in just 33 games as a rookie last season.  Last week Drouin was recognized as a first round candidate for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by NHL Central Scouting in their September edition of Players to Watch.

Also considered for the award this week was Nicolas Petan of the Portland Winterhawks who scored four goals and four assists for eight points in three games, and Seth Griffith of the London Knights who scored five goals and one assist for six points in two games.
