Charlottetown, Islanders

The Charlottetown Islanders were back at it on Saturday night.

They scored 9 en route to a 9-0 victory against the Drummondville Voltigeurs at the Eastlink Centre.

Daniel Sprong picked up his first QMJHL hat trick in the win and had an assist. Six other Islanders had multipoint nights:

  • Kameron Kielly – 2 goals, 2 assists
  • Filip Chlapik – 4 assists
  • Adam Marsh – 2 goals, 1 assist
  • Francois Beauchemin – 3 assists
  • Guillaume Brisebois – 2 assists
  • Sam King – 1 goal, 1 assist

Carl Neill also scored for the Islanders in the win.

Matthew Welsh was in goal and stopped all 24 of the Voltigeurs shots.

After the win, Islanders defenceman Meloche talked about how the team has remained defensively minded even when scoring lots.

“It all starts out from the D-zone when we move the puck up the ice so we just need to continue to move the puck up to those guys’ up front and stick to the systems.”

Meloche also talked about why he and Guillaume Brisebois have worked so well as a pairing for the Islanders.

“I think we keep it simple and Guillaume is such a great player. I think we’re both different but at the same time we play a little bit the same way so it’s just fun to play together,” said Meloche.

With the win, the Islanders are now second in the league in points and just one point back of the Saint John Sea Dogs for the league lead.

The Islanders meet the Sea Dogs this Tuesday for without question, the biggest game of the season to this point.

You won’t want to miss that one!
