Commissioner’s blog: The Future is Bright

Tonight, at the Capitole theatre in Québec City, the QMJHL will celebrate the Golden Puck Awards and Hall of Fame inductions – one of my favourite nights of the year.

This is an opportunity for the whole Q to come together and celebrate our past, present and future. It’s the one night of the year where competition is set aside and we sit to break bread together as one big, extended hockey family.

This is the first time that ceremonies will be open to you, the public. It’s a chance to get close to your favourite stars and see them in a way you probably haven’t before.

This year we are proud to welcome into our Hall of Fame Conn Smythe and two-time Stanley Cup victor, Brad Richards, perennial inspirational over achiever and fan favourite, Francis Bouillon, Conn Smythe winner and Stanley cup champ, Jean-Sébastien Giguère, QMJHL defensive workhorse and respected broadcaster, Gaston Therrien, and legendary referee and showman, the fondly remembered Luc Lachappelle.

Giving these great men this well-deserved honour also gives us a chance to reflect on just how much the league has been able to achieve over the last decades, that it was able to foster such talent.

This evening, we will also be cheering our present talent and bright future. If you attend the gala or watch it on TVA Sports this weekend, you will see the spotlight on this season’s trophy winners, and who knows, you might just get a sneak peek of 2036 Hall of Fame inductee in the making.

Some of the greatest names in hockey history have been at our awards, and if you like, you can still add your name to the guest list. Grab one of the remaining tickets and come join us for an evening. It will be a good time with family – and the future.
