The Director of Player Safety of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Éric Chouinard, today suspended Armada winger Zachary Roy for 4 games. The suspension was handed out following an incident that occurred on February 16th against the Sherbrooke Phœnix.
Here is the rationale that led to the decision:
“On the sequence, the Armada player used an unusual angle to initiate contact with his opponent’s knee without even considering the puck. The impact was severe and was made at high speed. We believe that the Armada player had enough time to make a better decision to avoid making such dangerous contact.”
The Director of Player Safety took this decision after having viewed videos of the incident, considered the officials’ report, spoken to the players and organizations involved and after consulting the Advisory Committee for disciplinary action.
