The latest Ultramar Player of the Week is Halifax Mooseheads winger Raphael Lavoie. In four games, all at home, the 18-year-old from Chambly, Quebec recorded six goals and added three assists as the Moose continued their playoff run into round two.
On Monday night, facing elimination in game six of their best-of-seven first round series against the Quebec Remparts, the Mooseheads earned a 6-1 victory and Lavoie played a key role by scoring twice and adding an assist on the eventual game winning goal. For his efforts, the third-year veteran was named the game’s second star.
The following night, in game seven of the series, Lavoie assisted on the Mooseheads’ insurance tally early in the third period as they closed out the series with a 3-1 win over the Remparts. It was his 13th point of the series, tying him for the league lead in that department after round one.
On Friday night, the Mooseheads’ opened its Quarter-Final series against its long-standing Maritimes Division rivals, the Moncton Wildcats. Lavoie would again prove to be a game-changer, opening the scoring late in the first period with his eighth tally of the postseason, assisting on a later second period marker and capping the night off with an empty net goal in Halifax’s 5-3 win over the Wildcats. He would finish the night a +2 while registering nine shots on net.
Finally, on Saturday night, Lavoie closed off his week by scoring a pair of first period goals, his league-leading 10th and 11th of the playoffs, in the Mooseheads’ 3-2 victory over the Wildcats. He would once again finish the game with a +/- rating of +2 while also being named the first star of the contest as his club took a 2-0 lead in the series.
A highly-touted prospect for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Lavoie now holds the lead in the QMJHL playoff scoring race with 18 points in nine games. He also finds himself tied for second place overall in game winning goals (two) and +/- rating (+10).
