The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League unveiled today the winner of the 2019–2020 Michael-Bossy Trophy awarded to the league’s best professional prospect. Some of the best players in QMJHL history such as Mario Lemieux, Pat LaFontaine, Sidney Crosby and Vincent Lecavalier have received this distinction over the years.
Today’s special presenter is none other than former New York Islanders and Laval National superstar forward, Mike Bossy. The Montreal native was ranked sixth on the list of the QMJHL’s 50 greatest players of all-time that was released as part of the league’s 50th anniversary celebrations last year. In four QMJHL seasons, Bossy registered no less than 532 points in 263 regular season games and added another 73 points in the playoffs. He reached the President Cup Final in 1975, but the National fell to the Sherbrooke Castors in five games. The first round selection of the Islanders in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft was inducted into the QMJHL Hall of Fame in 1998 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991.
