QMJHL Player of the Week honours go to Halifax Mooseheads center Josh Lawrence. In a trio of home games, the 20-year-old from Fredericton, New Brunswick, scored three times and added six assists while the Maritimes Division-leading Mooseheads recorded three consecutive wins.
On Thursday night, Lawrence notched a pair of assists, including a helper on Halifax’s first goal of the evening, a 5-2 triumph over the Saint John Sea Dogs. The fifth-year veteran also registered a +1 rating and won 14 of 22 faceoffs against his former team.
Back at home on Saturday night, Lawrence went to work early once again, opening the scoring early in the first period. By the time the night was over, he would register a pair of goals and three assists, his third game of at least five points this season, and the Mooseheads would earn a 6-1 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles. To cap off the night, Lawrence would be named the first star of the contest.
On Sunday afternoon, Lawrence again found the back of the net in the first period, his 43rd goal of the season. He would add an assist late in the second period as the Moose earned a 6-2 decision over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. While Lawrence produced his fourth straight multi-point game, the Mooseheads claimed their fourth straight victory, tying them for the league lead with the Quebec Remparts with 93 points on the season.
Following his 101-point campaign with the Memorial Cup Champion Saint John Sea Dogs in 2021-22, Lawrence has picked up right where he left off, particularly since his acquisition by the Mooseheads from the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in late November. Of the 97 points he has registered, tying him for second in the league with teammate Alexandre Doucet, 65 have come in his 35 games as a Moosehead.
