Ryan Maynard is the recipient of the award for academic perseverance of the Charlottetown Islanders for the 2020-2021 hockey season.
Ryan has demonstrated academic perseverance in his first year with the Charlottetown Islanders. He has completed two courses from Cambrian College’s Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma this fall, maintaining an 86% overall average in both.
Ryan has utilized many of the resources made available to him to find success, including receiving assistance from his former high school guidance counsellor and participating in math tutoring as well. Ryan moved to Charlottetown from Cochrane, Ontario which is over 21 hours away, so he has also had to overcome the challenge of not being able to see his family until the Christmas break due to COVID-19 regulations.
The 18-year-old is a model of perseverance for other players who face academic challenges in their studies and/or face other personal obstacles. Ryan has had an excellent season both on and off the ice.
The entire Islanders organization is proud of you Ryan, keep up the great work!
