Scholastic Players of the Month | Patrick Guay Profile

Patrick Guay was traded to Charlottetown in January of 2021 and he has been the definition of an all-around player since the moment he put on the Islanders jersey.

Upon arriving in Charlottetown, Patrick and the entire team embarked on over four months of isolation to play the teams in the other Maritime provinces. Their dedication to the game was rewarded as they made it to the league’s semifinals.

Throughout this isolation, Patrick completed his final four online courses to earn his high school diploma from Ontario Virtual School. This task was certainly not straightforward due to the COVID restrictions, but Patrick met these challenges with tenacity.

The forward has always shown a positive and dedicated attitude towards his education and has proven to be a self-motivated learner. He has been a great support to his teammates with their education as well. Due to his abilities and commitment to hockey, Patrick received an invitation to the Arizona Coyotes rookie training camp last summer.

But Patrick began this hockey season facing yet another hurdle, this time with his health. Unfortunately, this prevented him from taking part in the Coyotes rookie camp. Despite beginning his courses late at UPEI, he never used his health as an excuse. He was focused on catching up and getting better to get back playing the game he loves.

Patrick continues to show his leadership skills and dedication to both hockey and his education this season. He is currently the league’s leading goal scorer (25) and is tied for second in points (47). The forward also completed all his fall courses with impressive marks and is eager to continue his education following the holiday break.

Patrick is an absolute pleasure to work with and can take great pride in being named the Islanders’ Scholastic Player of the Month for December.
