Scholastic Players of the Month | Jack Martin Profile

Defenseman Jack Martin has quickly become a valuable piece of the Halifax Mooseheads organization, both on and off the ice.

Drafted by Halifax in the third round of the 2021 QMJHL Entry Draft, Martin played the next season for the Moncton Flyers of the NB/PEI U18 Major Hockey League, where he excelled as a team leader and helped his team capture the Telus Cup National Championship. Martin picked up 12 points in the tournament’s seven games, including the championship winning goal he scored in overtime, before being named the Top Defenseman for the event.

Since officially joining the Mooseheads roster in the fall of 2022, he has adjusted well to life in a new city, surrounded by new teammates and going to a new high school. The native of Upper Coverdale, NB leads all QMJHL rookies with a +25 rating this season, while contributing three goals and eight assists for the Mooseheads in 45 games played.

“Jack goes to school with a great attitude every day and has worked hard to maintain an average of 85 percent in his courses this year,” said Mooseheads Academic Advisor, Allie MacDonald.

The Woodlawn High School student is known for his open communication, both with his teachers and with his teammates, and is set to graduate this coming June.

Martin has his sights set on becoming a commerce student at Saint Mary’s University and there’s no question that his success in school will continue to translate to success on the ice and in life.
