QMJHL Players of the Month – December 2017

ALEX BARRÉ-BOULET (Armada | Blainville-Boisbriand) // 11GP-13G-12A-25P

Barré-Boulet picked up two points or more in nine of the 11 games he played last month. His strong showing and 62 points have since propelled him to the top spot of the QMJHL’s scoring race. He’s currently dominating the Q in both goals (33) and assists (32).

Barré-Boulet also won 56% of his faceoffs over the past month. In a 4-2 win over Moncton on December 7th, the forward registered his first hat trick of the regular season and the sixth of his QMJHL career.

Over the month of December, the forward picked up a point in all but one of the Armada’s games. As a matter of fact, he rode an incredible 25-game point streak, the longest of its kind this season in the QMJHL and a new team record for the Armada, formerly owned by Danick Martel and his 18-game point streak of 2015-16.

**Honorable mention – IVAN KOSORENKOV (Tigres | Victoriaville) // 9GP-11G-7A-18P

Kosorenkov ended the month with a perfect two-point per game average and a nine-game streak in which he picked up at least one point.

Even with the Tigres’ star players Maxime Comtois and Vitalii Abramov currently playing at the World Juniors, Kosorenkov has managed to fill their void in a perfect way by generating the most points in a month he’s had all season.

ALEX BRETON (Olympiques | Gatineau) // 11GP-2G-8A-10P

In 11 games in December, the Olympiques captain maintained nearly a point-per-game pace. The blueliner was only held off the scoresheet twice in the month.

But it’s in his own end that he was the most effective, as displayed by his +13 differential. Breton actually finished with a differential of zero or more in 10 of the 11 games he played in.

His +22 ratio this season has him in second place of all Q defensemen in that category. As Breton goes, so does his team; the Olympiques closed off the last month of 2017 by winning 10 consecutive games.

**Honorable mention – OLIVIER GALIPEAU (Saguenéens | Chicoutimi -> Bathurst) // 11GP-6G-6A-12P

Galipeau has been on quite the hot streak since the start of the season and has not slowed down in the month of December.

The blueliner impressed by netting six goals and adding six assists in only 11 December games. He’s currently leading all QMJHL defensemen with his 15 goals and 40 points in 37 regular season games.

COLTEN ELLIS (Océanic | Rimouski) // Record of 5-2-0-0, 1.97, 0.924%, 1SO

Colten Ellis might be a rookie but he’s been playing like a true veteran over the past month. His stellar showing has helped the Océanic fight for the top spot of the QMJHL’s overall standings.

Ellis has been consistent in December by winning five of his seven starts and even closed off a handful of those games with a .925% or more save percentage.

On December 13th, he registered his third shutout of the season by stopping all 25 of Sherbrooke’s shots in a 4-0 win. Ellis is dominating all rookie netminders in the Q as he tops many stat categories with his 2.32 goals against average, his .913% save percentage, 15 wins and three shutouts.

**Honorable mention – LUKE HENMAN (Armada | Blainville-Boisbriand) // 11GP-4G-12A-16P

Henman picked more than half of his 31 regular season points over the past month of action. The Nova Scotia native is settling in as one of the QMJHL top passers after picking up another 12 helpers in 11 games played in December.

He leads all rookies with 26 assists in 35 games this season, as well as with his 14 helpers while playing on the power play.
