QMJHL Player of the Week | Tristan Luneau (February 27, 2023)
The latest QMJHL Player of the Week is Gatineau Olympiques defenseman Tristan Luneau. The 19-year-old from Victoriaville, Quebec scored twice and added six assists as the Olympiques went a perfect 3-0-0-0 on the week.
On Thursday night in Chicoutimi, Luneau and the Olympiques came out firing. His first period goal and second period assist helped contribute to an 8-2 Gatineau triumph over the Sagueneens. For his efforts, the third-year veteran, who also finished the contest with a +3 rating, was named the game’s third star.
Back at the Georges-Vezina Centre the following night, Luneau picked up right where he left off. After opening the scoring with his 16th goal of the campaign in the first period, he would add three assists before the night was over, including a helper on the eventual insurance marker. This time, Luneau earned first star honors in the Olympiques 7-3 win over the Sags.
Back at home on Sunday afternoon, Luneau would chip in with a pair of assists, finish the game with a +2 rating and take home second star honors as the Olympiques defeated the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 6-1. This extended Luneau’s current point streak to six games and the Olympiques’ win streak to 13 games, tied for the second longest run of its kind in the history of the franchise.
Luneau leads all QMJHL defensemen with 65 points in 54 games this season. The top pick of the 2020 QMJHL Entry Draft, the talented blueliner followed that up by having his name called out by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
