QMJHL Player of the Week | Louis-Philippe Fontaine (February 13, 2023)
The newest Player of the Week in the QMJHL is Rouyn-Noranda Huskies winger Louis-Philippe Fontaine. In two games, the 18-year-old from Chambly, Quebec scored four times and added a pair of assists as the Huskies won both contests.
On Wednesday night at home, Fontaine engineered an impressive comeback, scoring late in the second period and midway through the third to turn a 2-0 deficit into an eventual 3-2 shootout victory over the Victoriaville Tigres. The third-year veteran was named the first star of the game.
Fontaine would be named first star again on Sunday afternoon in Val-d’Or. His second goal of the game, with two minutes remaining in the middle frame, would prove to be the game-winner. He would add a pair of assists for his second four-point contest of the season while also recording a +4 rating in an 8-4 triumph over the Foreurs.
Fontaine was selected by the Huskies in the third round of the 2020 QMJHL Draft. He currently ranks second on the team with 25 goals and sits third with 49 points this season, each of which comfortably surpass his previous career highs in the Q.
