QMJHL Player of the Week | Joshua Roy (February 20, 2023)
The latest QMJHL Player of the Week is Sherbrooke Phœnix winger Joshua Roy. The 19-year-old from Saint-Georges-de-Beauce, Quebec scored six times and added four assists as the Western Conference leading Phœnix won three games in as many days during a Maritimes road trip.
On Friday night in Saint John, Roy put on a show against his former team. After opening the scoring midway through the first period, the fourth-year veteran would snipe the eventual game-winner later in the frame. By the end of the night, Roy had earned a hat trick, two assists, a +5 rating and first star of the game in an 8-2 Phœnix triumph over the Sea Dogs.
On Saturday night in Moncton, Roy scored his 30th goal of the season – the second straight campaign in which he has achieved this feat – and added a pair of assists. He would also finish the game with a +2 rating as the Phœnix defeated the Wildcats 6-2.
Roy would make it three straight multi-point outings on Sunday afternoon in Bathurst, scoring twice while the Phœnix overcame a second period deficit to down the Titan by a score of 5-3. He would be named the second star of the contest, as the Phœnix extended its point streak to ten games.
The 2021-22 QMJHL scoring champion, Roy currently sits second on the Phœnix with 32 goals and 71 points in 42 games. A fifth-round selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, he captured his second straight gold medal with Team Canada at the 2023 World Juniors last month.
