QMJHL Player of the Week | Jacob Melanson (December 19, 2022)

The final QMJHL Player of the Week prior to the holiday break is Acadie-Bathurst Titan winger Jacob Melanson. In a pair of games, the 19-year-old from Amherst, Nova Scotia scored four goals and added four assists while the Titan went 1-1-0-0 on the week.
Friday night was a tough outing on the road for the Titan as the club fell to its provincial rivals, the Moncton Wildcats, 7-3 in the first game of a home-and-home series. Melanson still found the scoresheet, however, opening the scoring just 25 seconds into the contest before adding a helper on a second period tally.
On Saturday night at home, Melanson and his teammates turned the tables in impressive fashion. Down 4-1 after 20 minutes, the fourth-year veteran led the charge with a career-best six-point night as the Titan rallied to defeat the Wildcats 7-4. Melanson, an obvious choice for first star of the game, recorded his second hat trick of the season in the win while finishing the game with a +4 rating.
Melanson enters the break ranked third in the league with 25 goals, while his 44 points place him in a three-way tie for eighth in the Q (along with teammate Ben Allison). Melanson became the first QMJHL player to be selected by the Seattle Kraken when the expansion franchise chose him in the fifth round at the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
