QMJHL Player of the Week | Frédéric Brunet (February 6, 2023)
The latest athlete to earn Player of the Week honors in the QMJHL is Victoriaville Tigres defenseman Frédéric Brunet. In a pair of home games, the 19-year-old from Gatineau, Quebec scored once and added five assists as the Tigres went undefeated on the week.
On Friday night, Brunet opened the scoring for the Tigres with just over six minutes remaining in the first period. He would add three assists for his third four-point game of the season and finish the night with a +1 rating in Victoriaville’s 6-3 triumph over the Moncton Wildcats. For his efforts, the third-year rearguard was named the game’s first star.
On Saturday afternoon, Brunet provided a pair of helpers on the first two Victoriaville goals of the game, helping earn the Tigres a 5-2 decision over the Val-d’Or Foreurs. The performance extended Brunet’s current point streak to nine games and the Tigres’ win streak to four.
Acquired by the Tigres from the Rimouski Oceanic during the holiday trade period, Brunet currently leads all QMJHL defensemen with 56 points in 47 games. His solid work in all three zones grabbed the attention of the Boston Bruins, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
