Our 18 | The 2021-22 Blainville-Boisbriand Armada

More often than not over the past few seasons, the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada has made experience, depth and strong work ethic its calling cards. This year, Bruce Richardson’s club will be using the latter, in particular, in an attempt to cobble together a successful season with a vastly different looking group.

With five of the top seven scorers on last year’s club gone via graduation or trades, veterans Simon Pinard and Zachary Roy will be asked to drive the bus offensively. Oleksiy Myklukha, acquired from the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the off-season, will be thrust into a prominent role in his third QMJHL campaign. Alexis Gendron, after executing well in a depth role last season, will likely slide into more situations going forward. Latvian Anri Ravinskis, a first round selection at the 2021 CHL Import Draft, is no stranger to the North American game, having spent the 2019-20 season in the Greater Toronto Hockey League.

The blueline is almost split down the middle between extensive experience and raw newcomers. The trio of Miguel Tourigny, Simon Lavigne and Alexandre Joncas begin the season as one the most critical pieces of the roster’s core. In addition to clocking big minutes on the ice, they’ll be partly responsible for bringing along four rookies to the back end as well as second-year skater Brayden Schmitt. In nets, Charles-Edward Gravel will be the go-to guy after putting together a string of strong performances as a rookie during the Armada’s 2021 playoff run.

Despite a bevy of new personnel on deck, the good ship Armada will keep one of its guiding principles intact; there will be no easy points earned off this crew.
