The Charlottetown Islanders have joined forces with the Dental Association of Prince Edward Island for a brand new program to encourage young Islanders to look after their smiles.
Starting this month, any child 12 and under who visits a participating dentist and receives a perfect check-up will receive a free voucher to be used at any Islanders home game this season. To redeem the voucher, drop into the Eastlink Centre box office.
Charlottetown Islanders President of Operations Craig Foster is excited to launch this program across the Island and hopes this new initiative will motivate the province’s youth to look after their health.
“Promoting the importance of good oral health and being able to reward our young fans for doing so is something we take great pride in as an organization. Young people look up to our players and by using them to help deliver this message we feel it will be very well received.”
Brad Campbell has been a practising dentist in Charlottetown since 2000 and is a member of the Dental Association of P.E.I. He says this new program is something quite close to his heart.
“Both hockey and dentistry are two of my biggest passions,” said Campbell. “The fact that these two organizations can team up to advance the importance of dental health, and health in general, stands for what we as an association believe in.”
Campbell says that many people don’t realize that your dental health can reflect signs of other bodily issues that may be happening to you.
“Anything from dental cavities and gum disease, to breathing issues and even sleeping issues can be screened by your dental professional. As time and research continues, we are becoming overwhelmed by the evidence that our oral health is indicative of our overall health, and the dental community has an important role in our population’s overall health care.”
The program will begin on September 1 and will run all season long.
