SAINT JOHN – General Manager Darrell Young and the Saint John Sea Dogs would like to recognize two players for their outstanding performances inside the classroom this season.
Forward Daniel Del Paggio and goaltender Alex Bishop are students at the University of New Brunswick – Saint John (UNBSJ).
During the 2015-16 academic year, Del Paggio achieved an A+ in Microeconomics and followed that up with an A+ in Macroeconomics. He scored a perfect 100% on the first midterms in each of those courses. The native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, also tallied an 88% (Grade A) in an online nutrition course taken through Acadia University.
Del Paggio, 19, was named the Sea Dogs’ academic player of the year and was the team’s nominee for the Marcel-Robert Trophy as the QMJHL’s academic player of the year.
Bishop, 18, earned an A+ in his Introduction to University course, which featured an astounding 108% grade on his midterm exam. He also earned an A in Psychology and an A in Introduction to Business.
“These two young men deserve our praise for their excellence in school,” Young said. “They have proven to be top student-athletes, combining important contributions on the ice with the ability to maintain high marks in class. They’ve been role models for our players. We’re proud of all of our students this year.”
Del Paggio and Bishop have each played two seasons for the Sea Dogs.
