Daniel Lacroix Returning as Head Coach
Ritchie Thibeau Named Director of Hockey Operations
Moncton, June 22, 2020 – The Moncton Wildcats are pleased to announce Daniel Lacroix will be returning as head coach for the upcoming season. Ritchie Thibeau, who has been interim director of hockey operations, is moving into the role in a full-time, permanent capacity.
“The combination of Dan leading the team behind the bench and Ritchie guiding our hockey operations is a great way to start our 25th anniversary season,” said Robert K. Irving, president of the Moncton Wildcats. “Together they will help build our team and provide fans with entertaining hockey.”
Lacroix took over as head coach of the Moncton Wildcats in December and guided the team to a record of 26 wins and 6 losses over 31 games, including a 16 game winning streak, in a season cut short due to Coronavirus (COVID-19). Prior to that, he was head coach of the Lithuania National Team and served as assistant coach with the Montreal Canadiens from 2014 to 2018. Lacroix was an assistant coach with the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers prior to joining the Montreal Canadiens.
“Dan showcased his passion for hockey and developing our players last season,” said Mr. Irving. “We’re thrilled he’s agreed to help us rebuild our young team and help grow their skills on and off the ice.”
Thibeau became assistant director of hockey of operations and head scout for the Moncton Wildcats in 2016. He has been interim director of hockey operations twice during those four seasons including the second half of last season. Previously, he was a scout with the NHL’s Calgary Flames for 12 years.
“Ritchie has been dedicated to our team and provided excellent guidance as interim director of hockey operations,” said Mr. Irving. “The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League recognized his efforts this past season when they named him a finalist for their Maurice-Filion Trophy as General Manager of the Year.”
