2016 training camp begins for Islanders

The 2016 Charlottetown Islanders training camp has officially begun.

Things got started this past weekend in Moncton with the inaugural rookie tournament, the Hub City Showcase, where the six Maritime division teams faced off. The Islanders rookies kicked things off on Friday afternoon when they beat the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in overtime by the score of 4-3.

On Saturday, the Islanders fell 7-1 to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles rookies. This loss put them in the 3rd/4th place game the following morning, where they lost to the Screaming Eagles again, this time by the score of 10-2.

Veterans and rookies officially reported to training camp on Monday morning at the Pownal Sports Centre. Players were introduced to the staff and were addressed by Head Coach and General Manager Jim Hulton as well as the President of Hockey Operations Craig Foster before fitness testing got underway in the afternoon.

The first Intra-squad game will take place on Tuesday at 7:00pm at the Pownal Sports Centre.

The Moncton Wildcats will travel to P.E.I. on Wednesday for the first exhibition game of the season at 7:00pm. The Islanders will then travel to Moncton on Friday for a game at the Superior Propane Centre.

On Saturday things are back in Pownal for an exhibition game against the Halifax Moosehead at 3:00pm.
