Veterans Affairs Canada and the QMJHL continue to commemorate all Canadian veterans

The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s commissioner, Gilles Courteau and Ambassadors of the various teams where present at an event to highlight the important partnership which binds the teams in the league at Veterans Affairs Canada. Since 2005, QMJHL teams organize commemorative events honouring Canadian veterans under the Veterans’ Week.

“I am pleased that my department can join the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to pay tribute to all those who have served Canada in times of war, peacekeeping missions and recent military operations, said the Blaney to representatives of the league. The face-offs hosted by the QMJHL teams involving veterans and players help educate younger generations about the importance of remembrance.

“Our Veterans’ heritage is rich in pride and history and it is of the utmost importance that we recognize their devotion and the sacrifices they have made for our great Country. The Memorial Cup, which is awarded since 1919, pays tribute to our Veterans and it is our duty to share their stories with future generations” said the League’s commissioner.

QMJHL and Veterans Affairs Canada work closely together to commemorate the contribution of men and women in uniform.
