Moose lose 5-3 to Eagles
The Halifax Mooseheads didn’t have a lot go their way Sunday at the Forum, and they didn’t do themselves any favor either.
The Mooseheads trailed all afternoon as the Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first and led 2-1 after 1 period of play. Jonathan Drouin scored for the Mooseheads in a period dominated by the Moose 21-5 on the shotclock.
In the 2nd period, the two teams would trade goals as the Moose still trailed the Eagles by 1 after 2 periods. Matthew Boudreau scored for the Mooseheads in the middle frame.
Steve Gillard would tie the game at 3 early in the 3rd period before the game turned nasty, earmarked by a Marty Frk major for spearing Jonathan Oligny in the face. Oligny was a thorn in the side of the Mooseheads all game and clearly managed to get under Frk, and several of the Mooseheads skin. The Mooseheads could not kill off the 7 minute Eagles powerplay and Cape Breton took advantage scoring 2 goals for a 5-3 win.
The Mooseheads outshot the Eagles 35-21 in the game. Zach Fucale took the loss in goal making 16 saves.
The Mooseheads are back on home ice for pre-season finale Friday night versus the Saint John Sea Dogs at 7pm at the Halifax Forum. Tickets are available at Antlers or the Forum Box Office.
