(LONGUEUIL, Monday December 15) – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced its offensive and defensive players of the week for the period ended December 14.
The offensive player of the week is the left-handed centre player Benoit Mondou of the Shawinigan Cataractes. In three games, the player who is from Sorel scored three goals (ome winning goal) and added three assists for a total of six points (+2).
In a 7-4 victory over the Gatineau Olympiques on Tuesday December 9, Benoit scored one goal and got one assist. He participated to two of the four first goals scored by his team, which was leading 4-0 in the second period. In a 5-2 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Friday evening, Mondou scored one goal and added two assists for a total of three points (+3) and the second star. While the Titan was leading 2-1 in the third period, Benoit scored the tying goal (2-2) before getting an assist on the winning goal scored by teammate Charles Gauthier. On the next day, in a 4-2 victory over the Rimouski Oceanic, he scored the winning goal. This game was the 300th victory of head-coach Denis Francoeur.
Finally, Benoît Mondou stands eight of the scorers in the QMJHL with 44 points. He is very efficient on the face-off with a percentage of 56.4% and also for scoring winning goals with a total of four so far this season.
Other players selected: Jean-Michel Daoust (Gatineau Olympiques), Guillaume Demers (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles) and Yannick Tifu (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies).

The Baie-Comeau Drakkar left-handed goaltender, Julien Walsh, is the defensive player of the week in the QMJHL. In two games, he got one win and one defeat. He kept a 1.51 goals-against average and a .949 save percentage.
In a defeat of 1-0 in Quebec on Friday, Julien had 31 saves. Yesterday, in a 5-2 victory over the Quebec Remparts, he stopped 25 of the 27 shots, of which 10 were in the first period.
Finally, the Drakkar allowed three goals this week, all in shorthanded situations. Julien Walsh has a 3.32 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. Since the beginning of the season, the goaltender from Montmagny received an average of 34 shots on goal per game. The competition is currently very interesting in the East Division with only four points between the second place (Remparts with 33 points) and the fifth place (Drakkar with 29 points).
