Boucherville, QC – Simon Lafrance (Foreurs | Val-d’Or) was named Ultramar Player of the Week after the opening week of QMJHL activities. Lafrance rocketed to the top of the scoring leaders after respectably collecting two and four points in his first two games of the season.
In the Foreurs’ 5-4 win over Sherbrooke on Friday, Lafrance skated away with two assists on the power play – one on the game’s opening goal, and one on the game-winning goal in overtime.
On the very next day, Lafrance put up an incredible performance but saw his team fall to the Drummondville Voltigeurs following a 6-5 shootout. Lafrance had nothing to be ashamed of in the loss after leading the Foreurs with two goals and two helpers, including a power play assist and an unassisted goal.
The four-point outing in a single game was a personal best for Lafrance, he who had formerly scored a hat-trick against Rouyn-Noranda last year. After ending his rookie campaign as the fifth best point-getter for the Foreurs last season, Lafrance is certainly someone to keep an eye on over the course of the 2017-18 season.
Other players considered for the Ultramar QMJHL Player of the Week were; Matthew Boucher (Remparts | Québec) and Maxime Comtois (Tigres | Victoriaville). Boucher started off by picking up two assists in a 3-1 win over Chicoutimi and then led his team to a 4-1 win over Baie-Comeau thanks to his two goals and one helper. On his end of things, Comtois netted three goals over both of his weekend’s games, with two coming as game winners. He first scored in overtime in a win over Gatineau, and then repeated the exploit the next day against Shawinigan.
