Boucherville, QC – The Ultramar Player of the Week is Alex Barré-Boulet (Armada | Blainville-Boisbriand) who picked up six points in three games played over the past week.
Barré-Boulet kicked off his week by matching his playoff high of four points in a game in the most crucial matchup of his season. As the Armada faced elimination in Game 7 of its semifinal series against the Charlottetown Islanders, Barré-Boulet answered the call with one goal and three helpers in a 6-1 win.
He carried that offensive momentum into the 2018 Rogers President Cup Final, where he and his team were set to take on the rugged defensive corps of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
He ended Game 1 of the finals with one goal and one assist to help lead the Armada to a 4-1 win. The multi-point outing marked the ninth time he amassed two points or more during his 2018 playoff run.
Barré-Boulet currently sits third overall in the QMJHL post-season scoring race with 25 points (12 goals, 13 assists) but owns a league-best 1.67 point-per-game average since he’s only played 15 games, after missing three games in the first round due to injury.
Other players considered for the Ultramar Player of the Week are forward Alexandre Alain (Armada | Blainville-Boisbriand) and defenseman Adam Holwell (Titan | Acadie-Bathurst).
Despite Barré-Boulet’s tremendous effort, it was Alain who stole the show in the semifinals’ Game 7 against Charlottetown. The Armada captain netted a hat trick and added two assists to set a franchise record for most points in a single playoff game with five. He added an assist to his name in Game 1 of the Finals to end the week with six points in three games, and the top spot of the playoffs scoring race with 29 points.
As for Holwell, the 20-year-old blueliner began the Rogers President Cup series with two away games in which he respectively amassed one and two assists. In Game 1, his helper came on the Titan’s lone goal of the outing, one scored while playing shorthanded. Holwell is undoubtedly a key component of the Titan’s defensive core and is the final’s most experienced player with a total of 395 career games played in the QMJHL (season and playoffs).
