Peter Trainor, Brandon Whitney and Petr Straka were named today the TELUS three stars of the week for the period extending from February 4 to 10, 2013.
The talented veteran of the Rimouski Océanic, Peter Trainor, earned TELUS first star honours this week, recording 9 points, including 4 goals, and a +6 differential in only three games. Inspired hockey and incredible performances helped Trainor get to first place among League scorers with an impressive total of 86 points. On Wednesday night in Halifax, the Mooseheads defeated Rimouski by a 5-4 score in a shoutout and Trainor collected three points that earned him the third star of the night. His two goals and assist weren’t enough to overcome the Mooseheads at home.
The Océanic’s road trip continued with an unsuccessful stop in Prince-Edouard-Island as the Rocket bested them 3-2. Trainor still managed an assist in what was only their second defeat in regulation time in the past 23 games. The Fredericton native added a stunning performance against the Sea Dogs in Saint John. He was named the first star of the night registering two goals and three assists to led his team to a convincing 8-2 win. In fact, it was his fourth game with at least four points this season. Peter Trainor brought his streak of games with at least one point to 16. The Océanic is having a wonderful season and sit in second place in the QMJHL overall standings.
The TELUS second star goes to Victoriaville Tigres netminder Brandon Whitney. In the three games in which he was involved, he was the key element in two crucial victories as he allowed only two goals. He registered spectacular numbers such as a 0.71 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .976. He registered his third shutout of the season on Friday night while his team had the best over the Sagueneens in Chicoutimi 5-0. His 27-save performance earned him the first star of the night. In a 3-1 setback in Quebec Cicty, Whitney was called in relief of Steven Weilleux midway through the first period allowing no goals on 19 shots. Unfortunately, it was too late for the Tigres who fell to the Remparts.
Whitney earned the first star of the game while the Tigres had the best over the Olympiques 7-2 Sunday afternoon in Victoriaville. The young Chicago Blackhwaks propect is the goaltender that has played the most games during this 2012-2013 campaign with 47.
The star European forward of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, Petr Straka, earns the TELUS third star with two goals and seven assists for nine points in three road games. In a 8-4 victory over the Titan in Acadie-Bathurst, he was named the first star of the game with a six-point night. His two goals and four assists tied his career high. He finished the night with nine shots on goal. He also recorded three assists in two games in duels versus the Screaming Eagles in Baie-Comeau. With 70 points, Petr Straka is now 10th in the QMJHL in scoring.
