Titan’s winning streak snapped in overtime loss to Rimouski
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan’s winning streak of eight games came to an end Saturday night in front of 2 530 fans at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre at the hands of the Rimouski Océanic. Christophe Boivin notched his 100th career QMJHL goal, but it was Tyler Boland, the QMJHL’s leading scorer that ended things in overtime, three-to-two in favour of the visitors.
The Océanic got on the board first after a flunky goal got past Titan starter Reilly Pickard (17-12) at the 5:38 mark of the opening period. Carson Mackinnon would double the Océanic advance mid-way through the second period before the Titan scored twice in the final two minutes on two separate power plays to tie the game.
Antoine Morand recorded his 25th goal of the season with Boivin and Luc Deschênes assisting before Boivin scored his milestone 100th QMJHL goal from Jeffrey Viel and Zachary Malatesta to send the game tied 2-2 into the intermission.
Despite some great chances by the Titan, the game remained tied after 60 minutes of regulation play and overtime was needed to settle things. The Titan controlled the majority of play in the extra frame, but a two-on-one breakout for the Océanic ended things with Boland beating Pickard with a high shot inside the far post.
Jimmy Lemay (5-6) stopped 35 of 37 shots for the victory. Pickard allowed three goals on 27 shots.
Christophe Boivin becomes just the fourth Acadie-Bathurst Titan player in its 19 seasons of play along the Bay of Chaleur to reach the 100-goal mark. He sits two goals behind Mathieu Roy for third all-time in the category. His 112 assists tied him with Jordan Clendenning for eighth all-time in assists by a Titan player.
Antoine Morand became the fourth member of the Titan this season to reach the 25 goal plateau joining Boivin, Jeffrey Viel and Vladimir Kuznetsov on the list.
