The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, today unveiled the total amount raised by the League’s 18 teams  during special promotional night activities which were held throughout the month of October to help in the fight against breast cancer.

"Our 18 teams did a remarkable job again this year to raise money and awarness towards the fight against breast cancer. I am very proud to announce that we have raised a record amount of $139,444,” said the Commissioner.

"More than 400 pink jerseys worn by the players and developed by our official supplier, Reebok/CCM, and their partners in this endeavour, SP Apparel, was sold with the proceeds being distributed to local, regional or national organizations dedicated to the fight against breast cancer. I would like to congratulate our teams for their excellent work and thank our great fans for their generosity."

Most people know or care for someone who is or who has been afflicted by this terrible disease. Statistics show that one out of every nine women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and its franchises are proud to play their part in the fight against breast cancer. As a result of fundraising initiatives such as these, vital research in the field has enabled survival rates to jump 25% in the past 20 years.
