The Director of Player Safety of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Raymond Bolduc, today suspended Ryan Tesink of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada for 5 games. The suspension was handed out following following an incident that occurred on March 27 against the Moncton Wildcats.
Here is the rationale that led to the decision:
The player at fault got the puck in the faceoff circle to the right of his goaltender.
He skated with it to the center line and shot it along the boards in the opponent’s end-zone.
The opponent pivoted and went to retrieve the puck along the boards to the left of his goaltender.
The player at fault accelerated, went by two opposing players and proceeded directly to his opponent.
The opponent looked to his right and to his left before retrieving the puck.
He was about three feet from the boards when he was hit from behind by the player at fault.
The player at fault had a lot of speed.
He pushed his opponent with his arms in the upper back.
The opponent was in a vulnerable position and could not protect himself.
He violently went into the boards head first.
The player at fault didn’t make any effort to partially or totally avoid contact.
It was a very dangerous move that could cause injuries.
The opponent was injured on the play.
This is not the first offense for the player at fault.
The Director of Player Safety took this decision after having viewed videos of the incident, considered the officials report, spoken to the players and organizations involved and after consulting the Advisory Committee for disciplinary action.
