The PEI Rocket dropped the final game of a 3 game road trip losing 5-2 to the Chicoutimi Saguenéens Saturday afternoon.
The Sags jumped all over a road weary Rocket squad outshooting the visitors 16-6 and jumping out to an insurmountable 4-0 lead after just one period of play. Sébastien Sylvestre, Simon Tremblay, Laurent Dauphin, and Guillaume Assellin scored early for the Sags. It was a rough period for the Rocket as three of the Sags goals came on the powerplay and they also lost both Jimmy Oligny and Louick Marcotte to game misconducts.
The Rocket began to get their legs back in the second period but could not beat Sags goalie Christopher Gibson. Lukas Sedlak scored the lone goal of the period on a shorthanded effort as the Rocket pressed too hard to get on the board and gave up a turnover.
The third period saw the Rocket press hard outshooting the Sags 14-12. Victor Provencher finally ended Gibson's shutout bid at the 16:37 mark with assists going to Matej Beran and Anthony Cortese. Nathan Yetman added a shorthanded goal with 9 seconds left in the game with assists going to Erik Robichaud and Maxime Lagacé.
Lagacé was worked hard on the day as the Rocket were outshot 41-31. The Rocket, now 25-19-2 on the season continue their run of Road Games with a date with the Moncton Wildcats Wednesday January 23rd. The next PEI Rocket home games are Thursday January 31 and Friday February 1 versus Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
