Reilly Pickard frustrated the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada for nearly 60 full minutes while the Acadie-Bathurst Titan’s special teams did damage at the other end of the ice en route to a four-to-one victory giving the Titan a 2-1 lead in their best-of-seven quarter-final series Tuesday night in Bathurst.

Jeffrey Viel wasted little time getting the crowd of 2,690 on its feet after an early power play afforded him the opportunity to bang home his eighth of the playoffs. Assists on the goal were credited to Jordan Maher and Christophe Boivin. Vladimir Kuznetsov would double the Titan’s lead with his seventh of the post-season with just under three minutes to play in the opening frame after the Armada tried without success to beat Pickard. Dawson Theede and Zachary Malatesta assisted on the play sending the Titan into the dressing room up 2-0 after 20 minutes.

Jordan Maher would give the Titan their second power play goal with two seconds remaining in the man-advantage, netting his third of the playoffs with 8:43 left in the second period. Theede and Antoine Morand were credited with the assists. The Armada would get on the board late in the middle frame as Yvan Mongo was standing on the back door of the goal, making it 3-1 Titan after two periods of play.

The lone goal of the third period saw Rodrigo Abols steal the puck at the Armada blue line and deposit it into the empty Armada net with 1:50 remaining in the game for his fourth goal of the playoffs, sealing the Titan’s 4-1 victory.

Pickard (W, 2-1) allowed just a single goal on 35 shots faced in victory while Francois Leclerc (L, 0-1) saw his first action of the post-season and allowed three goals on the 28 shots that were directed his way.

The fourth game in the best-of-seven quarter-final series between the Titan and the Armada goes Wednesday night at 7pm in Bathurst, NB. The Titan will look to take a 3-1 stranglehold in the series while the Armada will look to force a sixth game that would be played in Boisbriand by tying the series.

With 27 cards remaining in the deck, the Titan Foundation Chase the Ace jackpot is estimated at $87,000.

Tickets are on sale at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre box office for both Wednesday’s Game 4 and Friday’s Game 5, and can also be purchased by phone at 1-877-549-3200 or online at
