O'Brien Leads Titan Past Screaming Eagles

  Zach O'Brien's two goal performance led the Acadie-Bathurst Titan to a 5-2 victory over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Sunday afternoon in front of 2,997 fans on hand at Centre 200.

  Along with O'Brien, Alexandre Gosselin, Adam Zboril and Sean Girard netted goals for the Titan, who improve to 5-4-2-0 on the season. Kyle Farrell and Charles Guevremont each found the back of the net for the Screaming Eagles, who fall to 2-6-1-2 on the year.

  Acadie-Bathurst took a 1-0 lead shorthanded at 8:21 of the first period as Zach O'Brien turned Screaming Eagle defenseman Justin Haché inside out and finished by beating Philippe Trudeau for his seventh goal of the season, the goal was unassisted.

  The Titan would make the score 2-0 at 5:40 of the second period as O'Brien scored his second goal of the game (eighth of the season), Myles McGurty and Jacob Brennan were given the assists on the goal.

  Cape Breton cut the Acadie-Bathurst lead to one as Kyle Farrell netted his fourth goal of the season beating Titan goaltender Jacob Brennan on a shorthanded breakaway at 9:22 of the middle period, Justin Haché and Philippe Trudeau picked up the helpers.

  Acadie-Bathurst regained the two goal lead as Alexandre Gosselin's point shot beat Trudeau high on the glove side for his third goal of the season on the power play, François Godin and Raphaël Lafontaine found the score sheet with the assists.

  Adam Zboril gave the Titan a 4-1 lead as he found the back of the net beating Trudeau on a beautiful deke at 7:27 of the third period, Christophe Lalancette added the lone helper on the goal.

  Cape Breton would pull to within two as Charles Guevremont scored his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal shorthanded at 12:04 of the third period, Alexandre Lavoie was awarded with the only assist.

  The Titan padded their lead at 12:44 of the final stanza as Sean Girard fired home his first goal of the season on the power play, Matthew Bissonnette and Christophe Lalancette picked up the helpers on the goal.

  Jacob Brennan made 25 saves in the win for Acadie-Bathurst, his record improves to 4-4-1-0 while Philippe Trudeau turned aside 26 of 31 shots in the loss for Cape Breton, his record falls to 1-4-1-2 on the year.

  The Screaming Eagles next game is Wednesday (October 17th) as they host the expansion Sherbrooke Phoenix. Game time is 7pm at Centre 200.

Mental Health Awareness Night: The Cape Breton District Health Authority's Crossroads program and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles hosted their second mental health awareness night at Centre 200 on Sunday. Several activities took place during the game. There were colleagues from the Crossroads greeting fans as they enter the building; information booths; contact cards for community resources; educational videos; as well as a range of community supports and services available to answer questions (The Canadian Mental Health Association, Bring Change 2 Mind, Mental Health & Addictions promotion committee, Pathways to Employment and Crossroads).

Theo Fleury In Attendance: Former National Hockey League player, World Junior champion, Stanley Cup champion, Canada Cup champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Theo Fleury was on hand at Centre 200 on Sunday. Fleury dropped the ceremonial puck prior to the game to kick off the clubs second mental health awareness night. The 44-year-old Fleury was in Cape Breton this weekend for the Cape Breton District Health Authority's mental health conference, which took place Friday at the Membertou Trade And Convention Centre.

First Career QMJHL Goal: Cape Breton Screaming Eagle left winger Charles Guevremont scored his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal against the Titan. Guevremont cut the Titan lead to two at 12:04 of the third period shorthanded. Guevremont was drafted by Cape Breton at the 2011 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft in round three, 39th overall.

Point Streak Ends: Cape Breton Screaming Eagle left winger William Carrier's points streak came to an end on Sunday afternoon. Carrier entered Sunday's game recording at least one point in the clubs first ten games of the season. The 18-year-old had three shots on goal against the Titan.

McGurty Records First Point As Titan: Acadie-Bathurst Titan defenseman Myles McGurty recorded his first point as a Titan on Sunday afternoon. McGurty, who signed as a free agent with the Titan on Wednesday, picked up an assist on Zach O'Brien's second goal of the game at 5:40 of the second period.

Lyle In Titan Lineup: Florence's Michael Lyle was in the Acadie-Bathurst lineup on Sunday. Lyle finished the game with a +1 rating.

Campbell Receives Five + Game Misconduct: Cape Breton Screaming Eagle right winger Kyle Campbell was given a five minute major and a game misconduct for a hit to the head on Titan right winger Brandon Hynes during the third period. Hynes left the game and did not return.

Fights: There was one fight in the contest. Simon Desmarais (Cape Breton) Vs. Alexandre Gauthier (Bathurst).

Final shots on goal: 31-27 in favor of Acadie-Bathurst.
