Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the players that will serve as Captains and Alternates for the 2012 SUBWAY® Super Series games to be played in Blainville-Boisbriand, QC, on Monday November 5, and in Val-d’Or, QC, on Wednesday November 7.
Florida Panthers prospect Jonathan Huberdeau of the Saint John Sea Dogs will captain Team QMJHL for two games against the Russian National Junior Team, while Chicago Blackhawks prospect Phillip Danault of the Victoriaville Tigres, Montreal Canadiens prospect Charles Hudon of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, and Detroit Red Wings prospect Xavier Ouellet of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada will be Alternate Captains for both Team QMJHL games.
Huberdeau, a 19-year-old from St-Jerome, QC, won bronze with Canada’s National Junior Team last year in Calgary and Edmonton, AB, before capturing his second straight President Cup with the Sea Dogs. The Panthers’ third overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft competed in the 2010 SUBWAY® Super Series and was named to the roster last season as an Alternate Captain but was unable to participate due to injury. SO far this season Huberdeau has 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points.
This marks the third straight year where Danault and Ouellet will compete for Team QMJHL, and second straight series for Hudon who scored a goal and an assist in two games last season. Danault, a 19-year-old from Victoriaville, QC, was a first round pick of the Blackhawks in 2011 and is currently seventh in QMJHL scoring with 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points in 16 games. Ouellet, a 19-year-old from Terrebonne, QC, is tied for second in scoring among defencemen with 19 points in 17 games and was a second round pick of the Red Wings in 2011. Hudon was selected in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Canadiens, and the 18-year-old from Boisbriand, QC, has 16 points in 11 games this season. All three players joined Huberdeau this past summer in the Canada-Russia Challenge.
