Dmitri Jaskin returned to the Moncton Wildcat in a big way , Saturday night, scoring twice and assisting on 2 other as the Cats down the Gatineau Olympiques 5-3, in front of 5,225 at the Coliseum.
Jaskin, who missed 10 games while at the World Junior Hockey championships in Russia, picked up right where he left off, helping the Wildcats reclaim 2nd place in the Maritime Division.
His returned helped Ivan Barbashev regain his scoring touch. Barbishev scored once and had 2 assists, as they were teamed with newly acquired Phillip Danault. Danault chipped in an assist in his debut in a Moncton uniform.
Alex Saulnier and Ryan Penny scored the other Cat goals as Moncton never trailed holding 2-0 and 3-2 period leads.
Wildcats out shot Gatineau 42-15 as Alex Dubeau gets the win , while Robert Steeves takes the loss.
Moncton was 1-5 on the powerplay, Gatineau 1-3. Simon Tardif-Richard netted a pair for the Olympiques, who have a 2 game win streak snapped.
Wildcats are off till Wednesday when the host the Saint John Seadogs at the Coliseum.
