What a start of the season in the QMJHL! The fans enjoy the show and are numerous to attend the games, with an average of 3629 fans per game.
If the Quebec Remparts were very dominant at the collective level since day 1, at the individual level the revelation of the first 3 weeks of activities in the QMJHL is Jean-Sébastien Dea from the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. The 18-year old forward, who had scored 17 goals in 50 games last year during his rookie season, just literally exploded! He scored 14 goals in 8 games and his 19 points earned him to be the leading scorer of the League, tied with Philip Danault from the Victoriaville Tigres.
3rd round pick for the Huskies in June 2011, Jean-Sébastien Dea can dream about some famous records, including 21 hat tricks in one season, an exploit achieved by two great players: Guy Lafleur in 1970-71, and Mario Lemieux in 1983-84. Dea has already had 3 games where he scored 3 goals each in 2012-13, while the last to have 10 is Jason King from the Halifax Mooseheads in 2001-02; the team record for the Huskies (4), established by Pierre Dagenais (1997-98) and James Desmarais (1998-1999) will be more accessible! A LITTLE HISTORY
Plattsburgh Pioneers - the Sherbrooke Phoenix, which won the first game in its history last Wednesday, ended a bad sequence of 8 consecutive losses. If this is the worst start of an expansion franchise (the previous record was three straight games without a win in Beauport in 1990), you must go back in time on a record not registered. In 1984-85, the QMJHL expanded, welcoming the Plattsburgh Pioneers, the very first team of the League to settle in the United States. This team, consisting strictly of American players, had such a terrible start that after 17 games, it was still seeking a first win. Supporters of the team, so little were they, quickly declined the invitation and were not more than 400, gathered night after night. The QMJHL decided to dismantle the Pioneers after their last game in Drummondville on October 28, 1984. All statistics recorded by the teams and players during games against Plattsburgh were erased, and that is why all records against the Pioneers were never registered in the records book of the history of the QMJHL.
