Inside the Numbers ahead of weekend #7
Have you noticed how many QMJHL alumni are among the National Hockey League’s top scorers to kick off the season? To the Crosby, Kucherov and Marchand names that we’ve been accustomed to seeing among the leaders, are now being added players such as Couturier, Huberdeau, Mantha and company.
AMONG THE NHL TOP 120 SCORERS
- 17,5% – That’s the percentage of skaters coming from the QMJHL that are among the NHL top point-getters. In other words, it’s 21 alumni that are among the top 120 scorers.
- *Sean Couturier (Drummondville Voltigeurs | 2009-2011) – Couturier has been revealing his true colors offensively thanks to a booming start that has seen him amass 15 points in 12 outings with the Philadelphia Flyers. The 24-year-old centreman is currently flanked by Claude Giroux (14 pts) and Jakub Voracek (16 pts), two former superstars also originating from the Q.
DISTRIBUTION IN THE NHL, BY POSITION
- 13,2% – The goaltender position is still the one that is most occupied in the NHL by former QMJHL players. This season, no less than nine of our alumni have played in at least one NHL game.
- 81 – Within the 780 players currently active in the NHL, it’s the total of ex-QMJHL players that have played a minimum of one NHL game this season.
