BOUCHERVILLE, December 1, 2017— The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced today that Étienne Montpetit is the VAUGHN Goaltender of the Month for November.
Since the beginning of last month, Montpetit has faced an average of slightly more than 40 shots per game. Despite the lack of defensive support, Montpetit still managed to be between the pipes for each of his team’s six wins over the month of November.
The 20-year-old veteran has allowed his team to remain competitive in every game, and closed off the past month with a 2.66 goals-against average, and a stellar .935% save percentage.
Thanks to 36 and 35-save outings, he respectfully shutout both the Gatineau Olympiques and Victoriaville Tigres. The Sallaberry-de-Valleyfield native has also impressed his home fans by making over 50 saves in two of the games he started in November.
On November 18, Montpetit set a new career personal best by making 54 saves in a 4-2 win over Chicoutimi. With the win, he also penciled his name in the Foreurs’ record book by earning his 86th regular season win, most of any goaltender to have played in Val-d’Or.
After 26 games played, the Val-d’Or Foreurs currently rank 13th in league standings. The hot play of Montpetit has allowed them to boast a record slightly over the .500 mark, at 13-12-0-1. Montpetit is currently 2nd in the league with a .924% save percentage, and tied for first place with two shutouts.
