Eagles visit Shawinigan on Wednesday night

Cape Breton, Screaming Eagles

The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles continue their six game road trip by paying visit to the Shawinigan Cataractes on Wednesday night. It’s the first time in this six game stretch the Eagles will play on back to back nights. Wednesday’s game is the second and final meeting of this season- in the earlier game at Centre 200 on November 27th, the Eagles prevailed by a score of 6-2.

Coming into this game at the Centre Auto Gervais, Cape Breton is in sixth in the QMJHL with a record of 32-19-4 while playing 16-12 on the road.  Shawinigan ranks second in the league, first in the East Division, and is playing 18-5-2 at home.

Giovanni Fiore comes into this game as the league’s leading goal scorer, with 42, and is playing his first game in Shawinigan since being dealt to Cape Breton last winter. He spent two years with the Cataractes. Vasily Glotov has also been a key contributor up front for Cape Breton with ten points in his last nine games.

Much of Shawinigan’s offense runs through the backend, with Nashville prospect Samuel Girard tied for the league lead in points among blueliners.  Another defenseman, Jonathan Deschamps, is playing his final regular season game against Cape Breton after spending a year and a half with the Eagles. The forward core is currently led by Dennis Yan who has eight goals in his last 11 games.

Tonight’s contest starts at 8 PM Atlantic time, and you can catch all the action on 1270 CJCB AM starting with the pre-game show at 7:30 with Patrick McNeil.
