SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs fell to the Halifax Mooseheads 4-2 in front of 4,136 fans at Harbour Station in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Sunday evening.
Noah Zilbert and Kevin Gagne scored for the Sea Dogs as Sebastien Auger stopped 37 of 41 in the loss.
Jonathan Drouin, Stefan Fournier, Matthew Boudreau and Darcy Ashley scored for the Mooseheads as Zachary Fucale made 16 saves on 18 shots in the win.
The first period belonged to the Mooseheads. Drouin put Halifax on the board at 8:09. Fournier made it 2-0 at 15:37 of the opening frame.
The Pack outshot Saint John 19-7 to start the game.
Halifax extended their lead at 6:07 of the middle period on the goal by Boudreau, his 20th of the year.
Zilbert put the dogs on the board with his second of the year at 9:05. Matthew Highmore notched his second career assist, making the play despite taking a stick in the shoulder area.
Anderson made his weight felt in the second as well with two big hits in the second as well.
The Sea Dogs may have been down in the game, but Auger was still playing his part, making big saves left, right and centre. He robbed Nathan MacKinnon with the right pad, crossing post-to-post to make the stop.
Gagne made it 3-2 with a shorthanded marker for his ninth of the year at 16:23. Jonathan Huberdeau and Stephen MacAulay assisted on the play, and Huberdeau and Gagne keep their points streaks going.
The Sea Dogs were outshot 14-7, but outscored the Mooseheads 2-1 in the middle frame.
The Mooseheads made it 4-2 as Ashley beat Auger at 14:34, rounding out the scoring.
