Desrosier, Power and Mantha named the TELUS three stars of February

Philippe Desrosiers, Marcus Power and Anthony Mantha were named today the TELUS three stars for the month of February.

Philippe Desrosiers, the 18-year-old goaltender of the Rimouski Océanic, is the first star for February. He has a sensational score sheet of 9 wins and no losses during the month as well as an average of 0.94 and a save percentage of .965. From February 7 to 19, he registered three shutouts, breaking a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League record of 243 minutes and 35 seconds without allowing a single goal. He played his best game on February 8, when he shutout the Halifax Mooseheads blocking 42 shots in 65 minutes, helping his team win 1-0 during the shootout. In 7 games he only allowed one goal or fewer. During his last games of the month, placed his goals against average at 2.67 in 4th place of all League goaltenders, the leader of the pack being Halifax Mooseheads’, Zachary Fucale with 2.29.

With 12 games, 27 points, of which 20 assists, and a +/- of +17, Marcus Power is the second star of the month. He maintained an average of 2.25 points per game, the best in the League in February, surpassing Anthony Mantha’s (Val-d’Or Foreurs) 2.0 as well as Nikolaj Ehlers and Jonathan Drouin’s (Halifax Mooseheads) 1.89 averages. He collected at least 2 points in each of his 8 games played, and was omitted only once from the score sheet during the month. His recent performances have propelled him to 2nd place in the QMJHL’s leading scorers with 100 points, second only to Anthony Mantha with 108.

Anthony Mantha gets the second star of the month. In 10 games, he scored 10 goals and added as many assists, maintaining a +/- of +10. During the same period, his team won 9 out of a possible 10 games. Mantha threatened opposing goaltenders with a total of 44 shots, an average of more than 4 per game. He registered 2 points or more in 7 games, including a game on February 9 when he scored 2 goals and added 3 assists against Chicoutimi in a 12-3 win. He twice scored the winning goals, in addition to reaching the 50 goal plateau on February 21st against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. He ranks first among leading scorers in the League with 108 points.
