Montreal, Que. – The long-awaited moment for five QMJHL teams finally arrived today with the presentation of the draw for the first overall pick of the next QMJHL selection draft held in June.

The draw, which took place in the form of a lottery, determined the team that is going to pick first on June 2nd in Shawinigan. The draw was destined for the bottom five teams of the regular season, but this year the Charlottetown Islanders took the Val-d’Or Foreurs’ spot and the Sherbrooke Phoenix took over for the Moncton Wildcats, the result of trades previously made by the implicated franchises.

With 43% chances, the Saint John Sea Dogs were the favorites to land well the very first pick. The four other teams in contention were the Shawinigan Cataractes (28%), the Charlottetown Islanders (14%), the Chicoutimi Saguenéens (10%) and the Sherbrooke Phoenix (5%).

Following the draft lottery, here is the order of the first five teams that will step onto the stage next June:

  1. Chicoutimi Saguenéens
  2. Saint John Sea Dogs
  3. Shawinigan Cataractes
  4. Charlottetown Islanders
  5. Sherbrooke Phoenix
