Cameron and Racine suspended

Photi Sotiropoulos

The disciplinary prefect of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Raymond Bolduc, suspended today Saint John Sea Dogs’ centre, Jason Cameron for 4 games and Shawinigan Cataractes’ defenseman Jonathan Racine for 4 additional games to the automatic suspension for incidents which occurred during the February 4th game in Shawinigan.

Here is the rationale which led to the suspension of Jason Cameron

-         His opponent was in a vulnerable position

-         The player at fault:

  • Came from the blind side and hit his opponent’s head with his shoulder ;
  • Propelled himself upwards to get at his opponent’s head;
  • Did not have much speed;
  • Was at his first offence.

-         The player was injured

Here is the rationale which led to the suspension of Jonathan Racine:

-         His opponent was in a vulnerable position and no longer had the puck

-         The player at fault:

  • Traveled a good distance, gained speed and propelled himself towards the top
  • As he was about to miss his target, he hit the player with his fist and edge of his stick
  • Was at his first offence.

-         There was no injury.

The disciplinary prefect made these decisions after viewing the videos of the incidents, taking into account the official’s reports, meeting the player involved, talking to the organizations and after consulting with the disciplinary committee.
