Try as they might, but the Moncton Wildcats could not solve Seadog goaltender Sebastien Auger, the result a 3-1 loss in Saint John on New Year’s Eve.
The Cats fired 49 shots at Auger, who’s only blemish was a 1st period power play goal scored by Yannick Veilleux.
All the Saint John scoring came off the stick of 17 year old rookie Noah Zilbert. It was his 1st career hat trick, that helps the Dogs beat the Cats for the 4th time this season.
The Wildcats have now lost 2 in a row, the Seadogs snapped a 4 game losing slide.
The final shot totals were 49-22. Moncton 1-3 on the power play, SJ 0-3, played in front of 5,330.
Auger wins his 18th, Cole Holowenko suffers the loss, as the Seadogs lead 2-1 after the 1st, a scoreless 2nd before Zilbert scores his 3rd into the empty net with 8 seconds to go.
Wildcats open the 2013 portion of their schedule Thursday in Halifax vs the Mooseheads.
