Atlantic Canada’s best Major Midget Hockey Players to play in Halifax

The Nova Scotia EastLink Major Midget Hockey League (NSMMHL) is pleased to announce the premier edition of The Chronicle Herald East Coast IceJam Hockey Tournament.  This year’s tournament will be comprised of at least 18 Major Midget and Prep School teams from all over Atlantic Canada.“ This tournament will be a showcase of the best Major Midget hockey players in Atlantic Canada,” said Geoff Newton, Tournament Chairperson. “There hasn’t been a tournament in Nova Scotia of this size with this calibre of hockey for a long time.”

The tournament will be held at the BMO Centre in Bedford, NS from Wednesday, January 9th to Sunday, January 13th, 2013.  Tournament games will kick-off on Wednesday evening and will feature the 2 Major Midget teams from St. John’s, NL, the St. John’s Maple Leafs and St. John’s Privateers. The two St. John’s teams will be playing two Halifax area teams from the NSMMHL to start the action.

Hockey Nova Scotia is so proud and pleased to be able to showcase hockey talent of this calibre.  We are looking forward to what we know will be top-notch and spirited competition and trust everyone involved in this tournament will come away with positive experiences and memories.  Hockey Nova Scotia wishes the best of luck to all competitors and congratulations to the organizers of this event,” said Randy Pulsifer, president Hockey Nova Scotia. Gilles Courteau of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League had this to say about the tournament,"The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League is always at the forefront of new ways to develop the sport. This is why we are very happy to be part of this first edition of the East Coast IceJam. The event will provide a tremendous platform for us to refine our recruiting in the Atlantic Provinces and better evaluate future players. We look forward to being part of this great initiative."

“The NSMMHL and the volunteer Tournament Committee have put a lot of hard work and time over the past few months to get this inaugural event up and running” according to Tournament Chairperson, Geoff Newton. He went on to say, “In addition to the 38 tournament games, we are currently finalizing the plans for a couple of different events that will take place during the Tournament that we believe the players, fans and scouts will enjoy.”
