The Canadian Hockey League is proud to announce today that 15 former CHL players hoisted the Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings following Monday night’s 6-1 win over the New Jersey Devils in Game 6 of the 2011-12 Stanley Cup Finals.
The 15 players include CHL graduates that were listed on the Kings playoff roster with 11 former players competing in Game 6 of the series.
Kings captain and former Guelph Storm forward Dustin Brown, a three-time OHL Scholastic Player of the Year, became just the second American born captain to hoist the Stanley Cup. Brown follows another OHL graduate, Derian Hatcher (North Bay Centennials 1989-91), who led the Dallas Stars to a Stanley Cup title in 1999.
Three Kings players have also won MasterCard Memorial Cup titles in addition to their Stanley Cup victories including Jarret Stoll with the Kootenay Ice in 2002, Mike Richards with the Kitchener Rangers in 2003, and Andrei Loktionov with the Windsor Spitfires in 2009.
In addition to the 15 former CHL players on the Kings roster, members of the Kings coaching staff played in the CHL including Head Coach Darryl Sutter with the Lethbridge Broncos (1977-78), Assistant Coach John Stevens played for the Oshawa Generals (1983-86), and Goaltending Coach Bill Ranford played with the New Westminster Bruins (1983-86).
The CHL wishes to congratulate the Los Angeles Kings Hockey Club and all former players for a tremendous season.
